History of our club
Orpington's first amateur boxing club was founded in 1962 by Mr Alf Riley and was known as
Orpington ABC. They had a great deal of success with well known boxers including among many the hillman brothers and Jimmy
Cable. Sadly mainly due to lack of funding Orpington ABC closed. After a gap of 15 years Cray Valley opened its doors and
after a visit from Mr. Riley's sons decided that in his memory we would do our best to honour Orpington ABC and become Orpington
& Cray Valley ABC.
Orpington & Cray Valley ABC opened on the 17th April 2006 by head coach Oliver Rutherford.
After spending several years involved in boxing serving as both a coach and judge at other clubs he was
surprised to find that there was not a club active in the area and so after a lot of hard work and help from the
community Orpington & Cray Valley ABC was formed.............
